ASBAGHI PRE-LUTON

7 February 2022

Our head coach looked ahead to Tuesday evening's trip to Kenilworth Road.

PLAYER AVAILABILITY

“In terms of injury, Jasper Moon just came back today, but he won’t be involved tomorrow. Hopefully he will return for the weekend. We’ve not lost anyone else, so it’s just Cauley Woodrow, Callum Brittain, Victor Adeboyejo, Clarke Oduor and Matty Wolfe missing. Only Cauley is long-term for us.

“I imagine we’ll see Wolfey, Britts and Clarke sooner. But you can never tell, as we’ve seen recently.

“Domingos Quina was cup-tied so he’s back in the squad for Luton.

“I’m backing the idea that Amine Bassi and Quina will create chances for us. That’s why they’re here. They have the ability to create opportunities, good composure, to be more decisive with the final pass, that end-product.”

CHANCE CREATION

“It’s important for us to create chances, and we did create some in that game (Huddersfield). They weren’t on target, but we’re creating. And we did score, let’s not forget, although it was ruled out in the end.

“We can always improve and create more, but it’s about efficiency for us. We have to be clinical. It’s the same at the other end.

“I’m definitely unhappy with our record in terms of scoring, especially in recent games. But I do believe in our players and hopefully it’s going to turn for us from tomorrow.”

ON RECENT CRITICISM

“It’s normal in football that when a team is suffering, that results aren’t coming, that the manager is questioned.

“I arrived and we’d lost nine of ten games.

“I expected us to be much better than we’ve shown, so I totally understand the criticism, but we have dealt with a lot of bad luck, so many injuries, so many players missing and so on.

"These aren't excuses, but it's been challenging.

“But if we lose games like this, I accept the criticism. It’s football and we all know how it goes. But I don’t have time to worry about what others think, or to feel sorry for myself.

“I’m completely focused on us improving, to get the goals, get the points. I’ll keep giving it my best as always. I can't worry about anything else. My focus is on what I can affect.”

TOMORROW NIGHT

“They’re pretty direct, Luton, they use the forward Elijah Adebayo really well. They get onto the second balls and it’s very effective, as their results show.

“But if we are working collectively and everyone does their job as an individual, you can dictate how the game flows.

“We must improve how we play on the road, and so tomorrow is the target. We will go there with belief and hope to turn our fortunes.”
