REMEMBERING NORMAN RIMMINGTON

28 December 2022

Barnsley Football Club will once again pay tribute to 'Rimmo' when hosting Fleetwood Town tomorrow evening.

On 29 December 2016, Barnsley FC lost a man who epitomised everything which this Club stands for

The great Norman Rimmington BEM represented this proud Club with unparalled distinction for over 65 years in a variety of roles, from player to coach, groundsman to kit man.

When the Reds welcome Fleetwood to Oakwell tomorrow night in Sky Bet League One action, on the very date of Norman's passing six years ago, Barnsley FC will again pay tribute to the man lovingly referred to as 'Mr Barnsley'.

The Club have honoured his memory with the annual Norman Rimmington Memorial Match, staged at the home fixture closest to his passing.

Joining us as honorary guests on Thursday evening in the directors box will be members of the Rimmington family, and we’re also proud to confirm that Norman was the man who supporters voted for in the summer, when we asked whose name should adorn the South Stand (Ponty End). The work needed to make that happen is in the planning stage and will be completed at the end of this season, with an official unveiling in the presence of Norman’s loved ones.

This Club has had its ups and downs, and Rimmo experienced most of them! But since May of this year, there has been a real effort to realign the Club with its community, to reunite the fanbase and thus look towards a more prosperous future for all of us of a Red persuasion.
But while the future to us is all-important, we will never forget our past and those individuals who have helped to build and shape Barnsley FC since its inception some 135 years ago.

Norman Rimmington BEM will always be remembered.

Once a Red, always a Red.
