LUCA CONNELL REACTS TO VICTORY OVER POSH

3 December 2022

The midfielder spoke to iFollow Barnsley after scoring his first goal for the Reds in an impressive 2-1 away victory to Peterborough United.

The 21-year-old opened the scoring with a sumptuous half-volley just after the ten minute mark, after a Nicky Cadden cross was headed away by Jeando Fuchs and came out to Connell who arrowed a strike past Bergström in the hosts' net.

As mentioned, the strike was the midfielder's first in a Barnsley shirt since joining in June of this year, and he spoke us through the deadlock breaker in Cambridgeshire.

"It doesn't come around very often for me, I'll be honest!", he smiled. "I was made up to get it. I think you can tell by the reaction but no, it was great to get off the mark.

"I had a bit more time than I probably thought, so I just chested it and made sure I had a nice contact. I think Devante Cole has done well to get out the way! Luckily it got around him and went in the corner."

The result on Friday night makes it four league victories now on the spin for Michael Duff's men, seeing us rise to fourth in the Sky Bet League One table, leapfrogging Posh.

Connell believes the Reds were good value for their success at the Weston Homes Stadium, praising every man back to front in their endeavours to ensure a positive outcome.

"I think it's what we deserved from the game, we performed well," he discussed. "We defended well. Luckily, we got a couple of goals and it tops a good performance off.

"The way we scored a couple of goals - it's always nice. You need to score goals to win games, that's just the basics of it. I think we defended well. Not just the midfield, but the defence, the strikers, all of us, Bradders in goal (Brad Collins). We kept it solid all together and got the result we needed."
