HERBIE KANE DISCUSSES RETURN FROM INJURY

30 August 2022

With his usual Bristolian charm, Herbie greeted the gathered press and sat down with a smile.

There is reason for the midfielder to be smiling, back in contention to be picked for Michael Duff's side for the first time this campaign after another groin injury picked up prior to our pre-season friendly with Nottingham Forest.

However, the 23-year-old has completed his rehab and is feeling strong ahead of his return.

"I'm looking forward to this week of training," he said.

"Obviously, we've got a few big games coming up. I'm feeling fit, I'm feeling ready and I'm hungry and determined to get back training with the lads and get myself in the team.

"I'm looking forward to it."

Playing well and looking sharp on his return to the Club, anyone can be forgiven for feeling frustrated with another setback, especially after recently returning after a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

However, Kane's initial disappointment elapsed quickly after sustaining the injury, with attention focusing on his recovery.

"It is frustrating at the time, but I think the quicker you get over it and start working to get back right, the better really," he discussed.

"It's one of those things in football, you get injured. I got over it pretty fast to get back working hard and ensure I'm in the best possible shape for when I'm back playing."

Kane could make his return in our opening Papa John's Trophy group game against Lincoln City on Tuesday.

Our number 8 believes the trophy is ample opportunity for those on the fringes of the first team to make a case for their involvement when the league games come around.

"I'm looking to get some minutes in the game," affirmed Kane.

"Get some match fitness, which will be good. There's a lot of tough games coming up, and yeah, I'm looking forward to it.

"I don't mind the free pizza after the game!" he lauged. "They're games that we've got to take seriously. If you're not in the team for league matches, they're a way to show the gaffer and the management team why you should be in.

"You've got to work hard, not just for the team, but for yourself. I'll be looking to do all that."

Herbie has been in the stands in our opening five league games and praised his teammates' efforts so far this campaign.

Despite being a frustrating experience, he has enjoyed watching the Reds and is itching to make an impact on the field himself.

"It's been frustrating watching the boys play, but they've been doing well, showing what quality we have got and also taking on the gaffer's points," he surmised.

"We're growing and growing and hopefully we can carry on doing that."
