MICHAEL DUFF ON LATEST VICTORY

17 August 2022

Speaking after our 3-0 victory against Bristol Rovers on Tuesday night, Michael Duff praised his side on a rainy Oakwell evening under the lights.

Goals from Devante Cole, Jordan Williams and Josh Benson helped the Reds to back-to-back home victories as well as keeping a third clean sheet in five matches.

With this in mind, Michael Duff was obviously pleased with his side's performance and attitude in the game.

"A good night for the club," our Head Coach began. "Delighted with the performance, obviously scoring a goal within a couple of minutes helps.

"Bristol Rovers are used to winning, I think they've won 18 games this calendar year, so the run they've been on is brilliant. They're dangerous teams, the ones that have just been promoted.

"I had it myself last year. They carry that momentum, they're used to winning. You can see it and hear it in the warm-up, the spirit they've got.

"But, I think it was a pretty dominant display from minute one, to be honest."

Cole gave the Reds a more than ideal to the start match, dinking home past James Belshaw from a tight angle in the second minute.

Duff was delighted for the striker to get off the mark this campaign and praised his performance.

"Delighted. Delighted for him to get his goal," affirmed the 44-year-old.

"Centre-forwards want to get goals, centre-halves want to get clean sheets. It's good that he got his goal and the overall performance. That's the main thing I'm looking for, is overall performance, and I thought he was good Saturday and I thought he was good today."

A disappointing result at Pride Park on Saturday despite an encouraging performance; you could easily forgive the team for feeling hard done-by and wanting to make amends on Tuesday evening.

However, Duff told his players it was a case of bringing the momentum from that second-half at Derby to face the Gas on Tuesday.

"We carried on the momentum from the second-half [at Derby]," he explained. "That was the most pleasing thing, they've taken information. Since the first game at Plymouth, when I was really disappointed, we've not won every game since then, but there's been aspects of the performance that I've been really pleased with.

"This group have shown a willingness to learn, a willingness to listen, and ultimately, they've got to execute it."
