Speaking after scoring the winning goal at Middlesbrough on Wednesday evening, Josh Benson praised his teammates’ application at the Riverside.
The 22-year-old was on hand to side-foot home after his initial shot was saved by Liam Roberts in the Boro goal, with the rebound falling into his path.
It was Josh's first goal for Barnsley, and came at a pretty good time, sending the Reds through to the next round of the Carabao Cup where a visit to Elland Road and the challenge of Leeds United awaits the Reds.
"It's a brilliant feeling, especially so late on and in front of the away end as well," Benson beamed.
"I was feeling good because I'd just come on. It was the boys that started and came on before me that put in the real shift. I'm just happy to help out the team.
"It was from the first whistle; they stuck together and gave us a chance to win, and, I managed to help out with a goal."
The result on Wednesday night also saw us register our second clean sheet on the bounce, owing to the organisation and hard work the Reds have demonstrated in their previous two games.
Benson believes the squad are now really starting to come together and understand their roles within the team.
"We all know our jobs," he asserted.
"If someone is not doing their job, someone else knows their job, so we're always helping each other out. If someone needs help, we're all helping each other out. We're all doing a job and a half for each other.
"We want to do it for each other."
The jubilation in the away end at the Riverside was evident after the ball nestled in the back of the net in the dying minutes of the game.
Benson praised the fans that made the trip up to Teesside and helped make his first Barnsley goal for the Reds even more memorable.
"That's brilliant," he lauded.
"Especially on a Wednesday night, people having work the next day, we really appreciate it. We could hear you whilst we were playing, and it spurred us on."
