MATTY WOLFE IS YOUNG PLAYER OF THE SEASON FOR 21/22

30 April 2022

Our Young Player of the Season for 2021/22 is Matty Wolfe!

The Wakefield-born midfielder enjoyed a breakthrough campaign at first team level, returning from a half-season loan-spell with Danish outfit Esbjerg fB.

Despite the Reds' struggles in 21/22, the 21-year-old has impressed since regularly featuring in the Sky Bet Championship and recently put pen to paper on an extended two-year deal here at Oakwell.

"Of course, it's great to get such recognition but it's bittersweet considering the circumstances." Wolfe told us ahead of today's game.

"I feel like I've grown as both a player and a person. I've had valuable experiences this past year and hopefully that'll hold me in good stead going into next season."

Interim Head Coach, Martin Devaney feels the award went to the right player, telling us: "He's been a great example of what can be achieved as a young Academy player coming through the system, if your attitude and application is right.

"Marrying those traits with his obvious abilities on the pitch, it's been a real positive in a tough season, seeing Matty's development in the first team."

Our Young Player of the Season will be presented with his award ahead of kick-off against Preston North End this afternoon.
