SAFETY MESSAGE

18 April 2022

As part of our ongoing efforts to ensure Oakwell is a safe and enjoyable environment for all supporters, we would like to ask supporters to take note of some key safety messages for our fixtures.

Counter Terrorism
Along with other clubs in the Premier League and the EFL, Barnsley FC continually review our counter terrorism procedures.

All clubs have been given guidance from the police and government bodies to try and reduce the threat of any incidents occurring, and as a result we have implemented some new policies.

It is important that supporters take note of the advice below and do all they can to assist stadium staff.

All of the measures taken by the club are to ensure supporter safety and we would like to thank you for your understanding and co-operation.

Bag Searches/Arrive early
Bags will be searched at every match and we advise supporters to arrive early to avoid an unnecessary queues at the turnstiles. Whilst we will do everything to get supporters in as quickly as possible, we will not compromise standards with our searching policies, therefore we strongly advise that you arrive early.

Bags will only be allowed into the stadium that are no bigger than 35cm x 20cm x 20cm. This will assist our stewards to search people quicker, thus reducing any queues at the turnstiles. Unless it is absolutely necessary, please leave bags at home.

Prohibited items include, but are not limited to, purses larger than a clutch bag, coolers, briefcases, backpacks and luggage of any kind.

Supporters will see bags being tagged by stewards and this will remain the case. Once your bag has been tagged DO NOT remove that tag until you have left the ground.

Be Alert, Not Alarmed
Acts of terrorism in the UK are rare but in view of the threat level being SUBSTANTIAL, we must take appropriate steps to ensure we enhance our existing policies.

While concerted action by the police and security services takes place every day to protect the public it is important for communities to be alert, but not alarmed.

What else do we do to keep you safe?
There are the security measures in place at Barnsley FC, some you can see and others you can’t, but they are there to protect all supporters and staff. We monitor the whole site each day and our staff are trained to ensure all our guests have a safe, secure and happy time. We work very closely with South Yorkshire Police and members of the security services to ensure our security procedures are up to date and following best practice.

We employ a team of detection dogs to assist us in keeping the stadium a safe and secure environment. If you’re lucky, you may see one on duty but please remember, these are busy working dogs with a very important job to do.
