Our Junior Takeover Day is back! Young Reds will takeover at Oakwell on Monday April 18 (Easter Monday), as Barnsley host Peterborough in the Sky Bet Championship.
It’s the third time that the Reds will welcome a host of new faces on a matchday, as junior supporters are given a unique opportunity to work alongside their heroes for the day.
Prior to the COVID restrictions, the first two Takeover Days proved to be a hit amongst junior participants and staff alike, with Marketing, Commercial and Business Director, Andrew Clark, excited to see the programme return.
“This is the third season that we’ve run this scheme and we’re hoping to make this one the best yet! We understand that our young supporters are the future of the Club and this initiative really does bring them closer than ever before.
“Based on feedback from previous events, the staff seemed to have just as much fun as the children! The knowledge and insight that the likes of Khaled El-Ahmad, Dave Anderson and Poya Asbaghi will provide will be incredible and will hopefully inspire a few junior fans for later life.”
Fans between the ages of 6-14 can apply for one of seven roles;
- Stadium Announcer
Shadowing the Stadium Announcer, one Junior Red will be on the mic, announcing the team news at 2.30pm and will have a unique view of the match from the PA Room!
- Commentator
These Junior Reds will be based in the West Stand, with the Barnsley FC media team, rubbing shoulders with commentators from the BBC and TalkSport! Their commentary will be heard on the highlights package the following day.
- Media Assistant
This individual will be a key figure across all of Barnsley FC's digital platforms. Throughout the match, they'll be updating Social Media, distributing team sheets to the press, writing a match report, and taking in post-match interviews.
- Grounds Assistant (x2)
It's a tough job, meaning there will be two positions available! Pre-match, young supporters will be expected to assist marking out the lines and penalty spots as well as ensuring all corner flags are in the correct position.
Watching the match from the West Stand, at half-time it's back to work! Assisting the grounds team, these individuals will help repair the pitch ready for the second set of 45 minutes.
- Kit Assistant
This job is completely behind the scenes, with all of the work completed pre-match, within the realms of the first team dressing room. With an access all areas pass, this one individual will be responsible for ensuring players' kit is set out in the correct position and style, whilst also pairing the right boots with the right player.
- First Team Player
It will be a full day. From watching training in the morning, to meeting all of the squad over breakfast. You’ll meet the media, backroom staff and have your own place in the dressing room. Prior to kick-off, you’ll also get a run out on Oakwell!
- Chief Executive Officer
You’ll spend the day in the shadow of Khaled El-Ahmad. From the boardroom, to the training ground, nothing will be off-limits. You’ll also be treated to the best seats in the house, as you watch the action from our Director’s Box.
To stand a chance of taking part, please fill in the following form and select a role*. The Club will contact the successful applicants once they have reviewed every application.
Closing date for applications is Thursday 11th April.
Good luck!
