Our Academy Player of the Season 21/22 is Fabio Jalo!
The 16-year-old striker has shone at youth level this term, featuring heavily for our U18s who are on the brink of securing a place in the Professional Development League play-offs.
His wonderful performances have not gone unnoticed by Academy Manager, Bobby Hassell, who selected him for this award over several worthy candidates as our youngsters have flourished this term.
With 27 goals at all age groups – including one against Crystal Palace on Oakwell in the FA Youth Cup third round – it has been an exceptional campaign for the young forward.
“Fabio has had an excellent season,” praised Hassell. “He’s top scorer at under 16s and under 18s level and has also played and scored for our under 23s, too.
“He’s recently had a call-up to an England youth training camp, which is testament to how well he has been playing – especially at the older age groups.
“We will continue to monitor his development over the coming weeks and months, but it is important that he keeps working hard in order to reach his potential, because I’m sure he has a very bright future.
“Fabio is fully deserving of this award. There were lots of players who stood out – as a collective, our under 18s have been magnificent – but the levels of consistency and maturity he has shown throughout the season have really caught the eye.”
