GOMES POST-SWANSEA CITY

15 April 2022

The midfielder's thoughts after drawing away at Swansea City.

Despite grabbing his first goal for the Reds, on-loan midfielder Claudio Gomes admitted his disappointment that his side couldn't get three points in Wales on Friday afternoon, with the hosts levelling the game later in the second half.

"It was not a good result, but we had a good game." The Frenchman told us.

"We showed good spirit, every player, knowing we were going to face a tough game. But I think we did well, even if we didn't get the win we were wanting.

"It's disappointing, but we can only move on now, to the next game."

SWANS REPORT

It was a massively improved showing from Barnsley, after last weekend's disastrous display away at Millwall.

Gomes, playing in a midfield three, was able to join in with attacking moves more often than usual against the Welsh side, and was on-hand to notch his first ever goal at professional level.

"I'm proud, but I'd rather we take a win than me score a goal in a draw.

"It's my first senior goal, and I was able in this system today to get involved higher up so it was good to get the goal. But again, it's disappointing we couldn't get the win."

With the gap now extended to 10 points courtesy of Reading's late winner at Sheffield United, it's looking like mission impossible for Barnsley in terms of retaining their Sky Bet Championship status.

The young midfield man reckons the squad can only continue to move forward, taking each game as it comes, starting with Peterborough United on Easter Monday.

"We have to keep going. We'll take the positives from this game, change little things we must do better, rest and recover ready for Monday against Peterborough.

"We will be back with our fans and hopefully we can have a good game."
