THEO CHAPMAN POST-CHARLTON ATHLETIC

4 April 2022

Speaking after our U18s’ 2-1 victory against Charlton Athletic on Saturday afternoon, Theo Chapman spoke of the importance of our young Reds’ win in terms of the league picture.

Goals from Mylan Benjamin and Chapman saw off an early Addicks opener from Jason Adigun to make it back-to-back wins for the Reds in the Professional Development League. The victory was a big step in the direction of achieving a play-off position according to the young midfielder.

“Yeah, it was a good afternoon, asserted Chapman. “Important that we got three points, especially with the other results that happened in the league, so hopefully we can push onto the play-offs now.

“Obviously, we’ve got to focus on the next games, because they have to be wins to push the play-offs and then if we do get the results we want, then hopefully we can do a job in the play-offs as well”.

Our U18s boss demands intensity and hard work as a pillar of how his team plays, and this provided reward for the Reds in the capital, as Chapman won the ball back high up the pitch and coolly slid the ball past the keeper to win it for the Reds.

This side of things is something Chapman has paid particular attention to this campaign.

“I’ve been working on it a lot this season, pressing the ball and winning it back, getting after the defenders,” he discussed. “I’m happy with myself that I did that, and it led to a goal.

“I just saw the keeper rushing out so I just tried to use my eyes and disguise it and so I went near post, and it worked out.”
