BASSI, QUINA & GOMES TO DEPART

26 April 2022

Barnsley Football Club can confirm the exit of a number of first team players.

We can announce the departures of loanees Claudio Gomes, Amine Bassi and Domingos Quina who have each returned to their parent clubs.

Arriving at the end of the summer transfer window of 2021, Manchester City youngster Gomes established himself at the heart of the Barnsley midfield, going from strength to strength, notably registering his first professional goal recently away at Swansea City.

Moroccan playmaker, Bassi joined the Club in the January transfer window and quickly won an army of admirers with his swashbuckling performances. Contributing a number of assists over the last few months and scoring a brace of goals in our victory against Middlesbrough, Amine impressed in his short spell at Oakwell.

Also joining the Reds in January, exciting forward Quina made the short-term move from Watford and made a rapid impact, scoring a couple of outrageous goals at Oakwell as the Club’s form improved through February and March.

Barnsley Football Club thanks each of those loan players for their hard work and commitment to the cause, and the parent clubs for trusting us with their development.

The Club will look - where possible - to use players in the remaining three league fixtures who are contracted to Barnsley FC beyond the 21/22 campaign.

This is also an opportunity for our strong Academy system, guided by key coaching individuals from within that setup as the Reds look to end this challenging season in a positive and forward-thinking manner.

Chief Executive Officer, Khaled El-Ahmad: “I would like to thank all of the players for their commitment and effort. Each individual has played a part this season and all at Oakwell would like to wish them well for the future.

“Reviews into this past campaign are already underway and as a Club, we have made the decision to ensure that players featuring in our remaining league games will be - where possible - those who are under contract with Barnsley FC beyond this season.”

All three players will be present on Grove Street on Tuesday, both in the FanZone from 6:45pm and prior to kick-off on Oakwell from 7:30pm.
