Our Head Coach gave his thoughts ahead of this weekend's clash with Blackburn Rovers.
ON PLAYER AVAILABILITY
“Romal Palmer is struggling a bit, so we will find out today after practice whether he will be available, but the rest are fine.
“Jordan Williams has participated once in our practice sessions, so I assume it would be a problem to put him on the bench and risk to play. This is probably a player who we have to discuss late on.
“Ben Williams will restart today; I don’t think he will make it for tomorrow. So, more or less, we will have a similar situation to Wednesday.
“Rémy Vita only had one session before Wednesday, now we’ve had two other sessions. He probably will join the team for tomorrow.”
ON STOKE CITY GAME
“We had an outstanding performance from Brad Collins in this game. First of all, we have to know how we wanted to play in this game and then we have to figure out, individually, which players struggled a little bit and for that we have to find better solutions, especially against a team like Blackburn.
“Sometimes it’s not talking about tactical stuff; it’s about talking about games in the way how you succeeded in a certain way. It’s about the team spirit, it’s about how we as a team got a good result from Stoke and we know it’s not an easy place to go.
“For the lads, it’s important to know that everything is possible, but the basics for us as Barnsley is to have this effort, intensity and team spirit to compete. If we bring this on the pitch, then I guess every team will find it tough against us.”
ON BLACKBURN ROVERS
“They’re one of the teams who have had a good start to the season; they’ve only lost once, against West Brom. For the rest of the games, they were on a good side – a couple of draws and a couple of wins.
“It’s a team with a lot of confidence and they had a big win against Hull City last time, so they come here to get the three points and we have to put the same effort on the pitch like we did on Wednesday. This is the fundamental thing – the same attitude, the same team spirit.
“We have to be more focussed on what we want to do, especially in possession. The team must have a good plan to find good solutions against a team like Blackburn.”
ON SCHEDULE
“It’s the situation how it is; we can’t change anything. We didn’t have a big journey – Stoke to Barnsley is not a big way. It’s not a situation that we have to think a lot about; it’s all about bringing our plan to the guys so they know how they want to play.
“We’ve had a recovery session and it’s all about the tactical stuff, and tomorrow we have to bring it all on the pitch and I’m pretty sure that we will.”
