HAYDEN PICKARD WINS AUGUST GOAL OF THE MONTH

5 September 2021

You chose Hayden Pickard’s strike against Bristol City U18s as our August Goal of the Month.

Barnsley’s 20/21 Academy Player of the Season lifted the ball over the defender’s head before unleashing a wonderful volley into the roof of the net from 18-yards, drawing comparisons to Paul Gascoigne’s effort against Scotland at Euro 96.

The 16-year-old full-back fought off competition from Callum Styles to claim our first monthly award of the new campaign, narrowly edging the Twitter poll with 45.2% of the vote.

Upon winning this accolade, Pickard said: "I just want to say thank you to everyone who voted for me; it means a lot and I'm delighted to have won this award. There were some excellent goals - even some that weren't in contention - so to come out on top is a big honour.

"I hope I can add a few more as the season goes on and we can be even more successful than we were last year."

U18s coach, Tom Harban, added: "For Hayden to win this award is a magnificent achievement and shows just how good the goal was that the supporters have recognised him in this way.

"In the actual game itself, there were three exceptional strikes - any of which could have been nominated for this award.

"I'm sure it's a proud moment for Hayden and I'm looking forward to seeing how he develops over the rest of the season."

Congratulations, Hayden!
