AAPO HALME POST-BLACKBURN ROVERS

19 September 2021

Speaking after our 0-0 draw at home to Blackburn Rovers on Saturday afternoon, Aapo Halme believes the Reds need to be more clinical in front of goal.

Opportunities came and went for Barnsley as Clarke Oduor, Michał Helik, Dominik Frieser, Callum Brittain, Victor Adeboyejo and Callum Styles all came close to finding a way through, but to no avail against a stubborn visiting side.

“I think we played OK; we created decent chances to score goals but we just have to finish our chances,” said the Finn.

One positive to take from the game for Halme and co was a clean sheet – particularly after shipping three at Bournemouth last weekend before being rescued by Brad Collins’ masterclass at Stoke City on Wednesday evening.

Our backline was rarely troubled by Rovers, who flashed a couple of balls across the face of goal in the first half and saw Ben Brereton Díaz thwarted by Collins after the interval, and it is a solid platform to build on heading into our clash with Blackpool next Saturday.

“There’s always room to improve defensively – they only had one good chance but, other than that, they didn’t have many chances,” continued our central defender.

“For the last two games, the mentality in the team has been great and we’ll take that into the next games.”
