The captain spoke to us ahead of Saturday's clash with Bristol City.
FIGHTBACK AGAINST THE BLADES
“It was a good reaction from going 3-0 down. The lads could easily have just given up, but we didn’t so that’s pleasing. A good reaction, a couple of good goals and we got ourselves back into the game.
“So that was a really positive way to finish what was another bad game I suppose, because we didn’t win.
“We had nothing to lose at that point, you see it all the time, but it’s still something we have to take with us now moving into the next game.”
WORKING HARD
“The results haven’t been great, but I think our performances show that we are not giving up.
“We are doing everything for the gaffer, and yes, it’s a results-based business, things aren’t going well for us at the minute, but you’ve just got to keep going and we are all behind what we are trying to do.
“Ultimately, we don’t want to be down here and we’re all going to work together to get us moving up the table.”
FAN REACTION
“As fans you’ve got to stick by your team when things are going well or not so well.
“If there’s a fan telling us we aren’t trying, then they aren’t watching the game right, because we get the running stats every single game and they’re exactly the same as they were last season.
“The majority of our fans are absolutely great and we need their support as much as possible. But those who want to abuse the lads, I’ve got no time for that.”
TURNING THINGS AROUND
“We’ve been in this situation before. I had it when I was at Burton on loan a few years ago, and we’ve had times like this before here at Barnsley too.
“We had the same amount of points recently after the same games as last season, before Valérien came in. So there’s a number of us still here who know what this is all about.
“It’s obviously a challenging time but it’s nothing we’ve not faced before.”
STYLE OF PLAY
“We want the ball, we want to dominate teams and play that style of football. And that’s what the gaffer is after, so we have to back that completely.
“As players you can only do what the manager wants, and obviously last season was a lot more direct, a bit more aggressive, but this season the gaffer wants us to have more possession and so we’re right behind that.”
THE WEEK AHEAD
“Bristol City have struggled for a long time at home. We are going to go there, on a big pitch, I think that suits us, and we are due a win aren’t we?
“So hopefully we can get that off our backs, get a positive result and then next week we’ve back-to-back home games against sides who are struggling as well.
“Saturday is hopefully the start of a mini-run for us.”
