Speaking after our 2-0 loss at the Riverside Stadium on Wednesday evening, Jordan Williams says the Reds are trying their hardest to turn results around.
There have been encouraging signs in recent weeks in defeats against Millwall, Reading and Boro to suggest that a victory might be around the corner, but it’s just a matter of taking opportunities when they are presented.
“It’s another tough night; we’ve had chances again but can’t find the back of the net,” said Williams. “We’re in a tough situation at the minute and I think it’s only us that can get out of it, and we need to keep grinding.
“It’s not that we’re not trying – we’re trying everything, but it’s just not going our way at the moment.”
Barnsley have struggled for goals of late, drawing blanks in six of the last eight outings but have still registered 84 attempts across those fixtures.
One is bound to hit the back of the net eventually, and Williams believes that, once it happens, the Reds will start scoring on a regular basis.
“I think they’ll come soon, but it’s about getting that first one,” continued our full-back. “Like I said, we need to find that first one and we need to try and find it soon because it’s getting a tough situation at the minute, but I think we’re capable enough to get out of it.
“We’ve been here before and we need to start picking up results and fast because it’s not a nice position to be in. But we’ll be fine – we’ll keep grinding and digging, keep working hard and hopefully get that win on Sunday.”
