MARKUS SCHOPP PRE-SHEFFIELD UNITED

22 October 2021

Our Head Coach preview's the visit of Sheffield United this weekend.

ON SOUTH YORKSHIRE DERBY
“A derby is always something special. It’s a big chance for us to show the crowd, to show the fans, that we are here – even if the situation is a tough one – but we know we have a lot of support.

“We have to bring all the crowd behind us so that we can make in one game, at least, a big step in the right direction. Even if we win, not everything is fine, but what we have to know is, in football, it’s all about the moments you can change a game.

“For 90 minutes, you have a chance to change the whole thing in a different direction and this is what we want to try to do.

“We are responsible for doing our best on the pitch and I’m pretty sure when we do our best, everyone will support us in the best way. So, it’s up to us, we know how it works and the situation is not an easy one.

“It’s a derby and we will do our best in this situation.”

ON SHEFFIELD UNITED
“They’re an interesting team with a lot of quality; their goal is to get to the Premier League again. They have big names and an experienced coach, who has already succeeded with a couple of other teams.

“This is a team who has not had an easy period of results – struggling a bit to get the right results – but, meanwhile, playing good games. I think it’s important for us to understand the other team, but it’s much more important for us to understand how we will react.”

ON PLAYER AVAILABILIY
“Aapo is not available for the next one or two weeks so, in the break, I think we will have him back. It’s important to have a player like him available and if he is not, we have to think about how we can solve this situation without him.

“Josh had muscle problems and, to be honest, when you have a player like him who can give you so much, you do not take an unnecessary risk if the medical department says it’s a big risk. So, we have a meeting and we’ll discuss that, but the latest information was that it’s too early for this game.

“For Liam, it looks better. Again, I have a meeting with the medical team and it’s a bigger chance to see him than Josh.”
