JASPER MOON ON BORO TRIP

19 October 2021

The young defender spoke to us ahead of Wednesday night's trip to Teesside.

ON DEFEAT AT READING

"I thought we were pretty unlucky really. We created chances, we probably dominated the game, and their goal came as a bit of a shock to us. But then I think we could have bounced back better.

"We needed to apply more pressure, but it didn't happen.

"I think to an extent, the performance was good enough for large parts of the game, but we need to build on it as a team now. Take the positive bits and improve where we need to."

ON BELIEF IN THE SQUAD

"The self-belief is still there, it's the same players pretty much that finished 5th last season. We still have confidence and I think we showed we can compete with Reading, a side in good form.

"We just lack that finishing touch, that last bit of quality at times. But we feel we'll get there, because it's a good group of players that we have here."

ON DISGRUNTLED FANS

"We know they're unhappy and we've seen some of the comments. But we don't focus on any of that. We all know our roles, it's October now and we've had time to adjust to the new style, it's just about getting the results now.

"All the players are behind the gaffer, we are all together as a team, and there's only us that can change our fortunes."

TESTING TIMES

"Things like this will only help and improve us as players. Things test you in your career, it's not all about glory.

"I think for me, to be dealing with this at a young age will only make me stronger. It's about taking the lessons and learning from the experience.

"I've no doubts that we'll come out of this poor spell. We're a strong team with good footballers and it's just the way the game can go at times. Last season we'd win the odd game with a bit of luck, whereas this year we're getting no luck. The game at Reading was an example of that."

ON BORO

"I know they're doing alright, they're mid-table, an established Championship team, but we feel we need this more than them. And we've to put in a display that epitomises that.

"We need to remind people that we're the team that did so well, that finished in the play-offs last season, and start turning this bad start around and moving back up the league where we want to be."
