MARKUS SCHOPP PREVIEWS READING CLASH

14 October 2021

The Reds' Head Coach looks ahead to Saturday's trip to take on Reading in the Sky Bet Championship.

ON THE LAST TWO WEEKS

“The last week before the break was a tough one, zero points gained, it wasn’t good enough at all. So we’ve used the time since to think again about what we are trying to do here.

“We’ve spent so much time in the last couple of weeks talking, having discussions, and we’ve worked really, really well on the training ground.

“But we can’t fix what has been and gone, we can only affect the future. So that’s where the focus has been. How to improve, how to make things better.

“We’ve faced a lot of situations, some tough issues, but we can’t use these as excuses. It’s about finding the solutions.”

PLAYER AVAILABILITY

“The good thing is, these players are getting closer. But they’re not ready yet. Mads Andersen was back with the group today, but it was only a tactical session. With Carlton Morris, he’s been back in training, but not with the team right now.

“There’s players who come back, then they get another issue. But as of now, there are players we are going to be without again this weekend and with this issue we will need to find more solutions.

“Josh Benson won’t be involved, but hopefully he will be back for next week. Aapo Halme will be another two weeks. And there are one or two other guys, I don’t want to bring up their names right now, but I’m not sure they’ll make it this week.

“Both Will Hondermarck and Rémy Vita are involved, they’re both interesting options for us.

“As for Obbi Oularé, as soon as I’ve anything more to say on him I will do, but nothing has changed there.”

ON THE FANS

“The first thing, this club had an unbelievable season last year. And the fans will have hoped to see something like that again this time. I understand that.

“But we are missing players, we’ve not had a full squad to use and so we are not facing an easy situation, I know that. It’s hard for us, for those players and for our fans. Results have not been good enough.

“But we must stick together and when we get out of the other side of this, we’ll all feel good together.”

ON READING

“Reading are an interesting opponent, we’ve spent the last couple of days looking at them, sorting out our plan to compete on Saturday.

“But the work we’ve done the last two weeks needs to come onto the pitch this weekend.

“I feel like if we get this positive result, things will change quickly for us. And we will get everyone available soon, where we will be much stronger going into the next games.

“I knew it was a challenge coming to Barnsley, but it’s a process. I’m giving everything, I am confident, but the results need to come for us now.I know how things work in this business.

“It’s about working hard, and I believe the players are ready and prepared for Saturday. I hope to see a big performance.”
