We played host to a very special guest in the Legends Suite ahead of our Sky Bet Championship clash with Millwall last weekend.
Barnsley Hospice, along with Eric Twigg Foods and Ambulance Wish Foundation UK, made it possible that Lauren could come to Oakwell and watch a Reds game with her teenage son and family.
The family were treated to our hospitality package, arriving at the East Stand shortly after midday, where Lauren received a welcome message from first team players before enjoying a variety of complementary refreshments.
Prior to kick-off, there was surprise visit from our Chief Executive Officer, Khaled El-Ahmad, who presented the family with a replica 21/22 home jersey before our loveable mascot, Toby Tyke, made a special guest appearance.
Lauren then watched the game from the comfort of our Legends Suite and even spoke at length with our Man of the Match, Liam Kitching, after the full-time whistle had blown.
The family then received Michał Helik’s match-worn shirt as another token for their special day at Oakwell.
Upon hearing Lauren’s story, Kitching made a generous donation to Barnsley Hospice.
“People like Lauren are inspirational, and it was a pleasure to talk to her after the game,” said our centre-back. “Even though we couldn’t get the result that everyone wanted, I’m glad that the Club were able to make the day as special as possible for her and her family.
“The work that Barnsley Hospice does every day to support patients, like Lauren, and their families is incredible, and it’s so important that we continue to raise funds for these wonderful organisations.”
