MICHAŁ HELIK POST-READING

17 October 2021

Speaking after the loss at Reading on Saturday, Michał Helik insists that the Reds’ performance warranted a better outcome.

Despite creating more chances throughout the encounter, Barnsley were undone by John Swift’s late strike on a frustrating afternoon in Berkshire.

“It’s such a disappointing result – I don’t think we deserved to lose that game,” began Helik. “I think it’s annoying because we invested a lot; we have a group of lads with big ambitions and we want so much to break that time for us.

“I know that we have a feeling from the beginning of the second half that we can do it – we go for that goal and then we concede. As I said, it’s annoying for us and we are so disappointed.”

Up next for the Reds is a trip to Middlesbrough on Wednesday evening, who claimed a 2-0 victory over Peterborough United this weekend.

Helik believes that, even though results haven’t gone our way, morale remains high in the dressing room and that he and his teammates are working hard to get back on track.

“It’s harder to be confident when you are losing games, but we know we still have good quality in the team and we can perform,” continued our Polish centre back.

“But we need to perform good to score and not to concede to break that losing way, and I hope with a little bit more confidence that we can get the win.

“We need to stay together as a team and a club. I know it’s tough for the fans, also, but for us it’s not an easy moment and only together can we go up from this point.”
