BRIAN SHERRATT | 1944 - 2021

9 October 2021

Barnsley Football Club is saddened to learn of the recent passing of former goalkeeper Brian Sherratt (77).

Brian was born in Stoke-on-Trent on 29 March 1944 and played for his hometown club before joining Oxford United in 1962. He starred in goal for the U’s and won the Third Division championship in the 1967/68 campaign.

His form attracted the attention of Nottingham Forest, but Sherratt failed to win the number one jersey at the City Ground and he was soon to sign for the Reds, with Johnny Steele bringing him to Oakwell in 1969.

He would struggle to displace Brian Arblaster in the Reds' goal, but did make 15 appearances for Barnsley before making a move south to Colchester United.

Despite suffering with dementia in his later years, Brian never forgot his time at Oakwell and the thoughts of everyone at Barnsley FC are with his daughter Kirsty and son-in-law Martin at this difficult time.
