After making his long-awaited return from injury this afternoon, we caught up with the Danish defender to reflect on defeat here in Bristol.
It was a first appearance of the 21/22 campaign for Mads Andersen at Ashton Gate today, with the popular centre back returning to fitness after suffering an MCL injury at the beginning of pre-season.
Naturally, he was both happy to be back involved but frustrated also to be on the wrong end of the scoreline in the South West this afternoon.
Mads told us: “Of course, being back was great, I’m happy with that, but I’m still feeling disappointed because I feel that we deserved more from the game today.
“But we need to do more. Maybe we can be more clinical in both boxes. It wasn’t great to give two goals away like we did in the first half.”
The Reds fell to a seventh-straight defeat against Bristol City, despite dominating the game for large spells. But Andersen says heads remain high in the Reds camp, and that he and his teammates are confident of getting a better result next time out.
“I’m still confident.” He asserted.
“If we all stick together, support each other and take the positives out of today’s performance, particularly in terms of the chances we created today, we can feel confident that it will turn for us.”
Whilst some would consider the Reds unlucky not to have taken something from today's match, Mads says you make your own luck in this game.
He is looking ahead already to Wednesday night's clash with Derby County at Oakwell, feeling good both physically and mentally after a tough few months.
“We have to remain positive, keep cheering each other up, and continue to work hard every day and we will make our own luck.
“We all have each other’s back here, and we’ll regroup for Wednesday night now.
“I’m happy to be back out there, my legs feel good, I feel strong.”
