LOAN ROUND-UP

29 November 2021

With a number of our players out on loan in the lower leagues and in Scandinavia, we take a look at how they are faring at their respective temporary homes.

Our first foray takes us to Denmark with Esbjerg fB, where Charlie Winfield netted his second goal of the season in a 3-0 victory over Nykøbing on Sunday.

The energetic full-back is enjoying a productive spell with our sister club and has also registered three assists in 15 appearances while at the Blue Water Stadium.

Meanwhile, Matty Wolfe and Patrick Schmidt have featured 17 and 16 times each to help Esbjerg to eighth in the table.

Back on English soil and Herbie Kane is performing well at Oxford United in Sky Bet League One. The midfielder has been a regular fixture in Karl Robinson’s side this season, making 15 appearances in all competitions.

His last outing was in a 0-0 draw with league leaders Rotherham United at the weekend, a result which keeps the U’s just outside the play-off places.

Dropping down a division and two of our loan stars went head-to-head at the New Lawn as Jack Aitchison’s Forest Green Rovers entertained Luke Thomas’ Bristol Rovers.

It was high-flying FGR who claimed bragging rights in a mini derby, of sorts, and our Scottish forward was on the pitch for 95 minutes before being replaced with his side 2-0 up. Thomas, meanwhile, was introduced with little time to make an impact.

Forest Green remain top of League Two, while the Gas are 16th, eight points above the drop zone.

Elsewhere, George Miller is playing frequently at Walsall and has netted seven goals in 19 appearances during his time at the Banks’s Stadium.

The Saddlers are currently 14th in League Two, despite Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at relegation-threatened Carlisle United.
