Speaking after a comfortable 3-0 victory against Hull U18s, young Reds midfielder Keegan Hartley was delighted with his long range goal that gave his side the lead on Friday against Hull City U18s.
On the impressive strike, Hartley said: “I saw it going in all the way yeah, over the keeper. It was a well needed goal – I needed it!”
Barnsley adopted a change of shape in this one, something Hartley thought the team dealt with well as they alternated from their traditional 3-4-3 system.
The diamond formation that proved to be successful during the 19/20 campaign was effective once more against the Tigers as our young Reds recorded one of their heaviest wins so far this term.
“I thought we all adapted well to it,” insisted Hartley. “I knew my role; everyone knew their roles and we did it well.”
Victory against the Tigers means Tom Harban’s side go top of the league at the time of writing, with Sheffield Wednesday facing Coventry City on Saturday afternoon.
The latter are Barnsley’s next opponents, taking on the Sky Blues at Oakwell Training Ground on Friday 12 November, and Hartley has one clear objective in mind.
“Just go into it wanting to win,” he asserted. “Win every game. Put our all into it. Whatever formation we play, we play to win.”
