VICTOR ADEBOYEJO POST-DERBY COUNTY

4 November 2021

Having bagged his first goal of the campaign in our 2-1 victory over Derby County on Wednesday evening, Victor Adeboyejo praised Barnsley’s team spirit to come from behind to claim three points.

Our forward struck shortly after Sam Baldock had put the Rams ahead, before Aaron Leya Iseka netted what proved to be the winner early in the second half.

“It’s amazing, it’s amazing,” smiled Adeboyejo. “We had to dig in at the end, but it’s so nice to get a win and that winning feeling back. The boys dug in to get the result, but it’s an amazing feeling.

“Even on Saturday, we showed character but were unable to get the result. The character from the first minute, even after going 1-0 down, hearing the fans pushing us and keeping us on it was just amazing.

“From the fans, right down to the players, the character that we showed was just amazing to get the three points.”

It has been a long wait to find the back of the net once more for Adeboyejo, who hadn’t scored for the Reds since December 2020.

But his contribution to the side mustn’t go unnoticed – a tireless runner and key part of the team that finished fifth last term – and the relief and joy was clear to see on his face as his effort squirmed in at the near post.

“Just to get the first of the season, it’s been up and down in terms of me personally, but it was nice to get amongst the goals,” he continued.

“The first goal is important for me and the team to build that confidence going into the next games. Hopefully, now, we can go on a little run and push on.”

Up next for Barnsley is the visit of Hull City this weekend, and another victory would be just the tonic heading into our final international break of the calendar year.

The Tigers have lost five consecutive games and Adeboyejo says morale is high in the dressing room following our victory over Derby.

“It’s a big confidence booster, especially the way we won it where we had to dig in and keep pushing until the last minute,” he insisted. “Now, I think everyone can go into the game confident knowing that we can win a game and see it through.”
