Speaking after our 2-0 loss to Preston North End, Toby Sibbick believes that result might just be the proverbial kick up the backside Barnsley need heading into the play-offs.
The Reds were far from their best at Deepdale and uncharacteristic mistakes crept in, leading to both goals either side of the break.
“It’s the boost and kick we needed,” said Sibbick. “We’ve learnt from before that we can’t turn up to games at 50% - we’ve got to give our all and a lot of us, if not the whole team, were off it and we suffered for that.
“It’s a performance that we need to put behind us and look forward very quicky. To concede two goals from set-pieces is poor from us and a lapse in concentration, and we need to fix that quickly and put it right against Norwich next Saturday.”
The disappointing showing mustn’t detract from what has been a tremendous campaign so far for the Reds, who have amassed 77 points en route to launching an unprecedented promotion bid.
Our versatile defender says that he and his teammates aren’t happy with just reaching the play-offs, though, insisting that they aim to go all the way.
“I think if a Barnsley fan told people we’d be in the play-offs with two games to go you’d have laughed at them, but we achieved this season something great,” he continued.
“We’re not finished yet and want to keep pushing.”
