You voted Daryl Dike’s thunderbolt against Birmingham City as our 20/21 Goal of the Season!
The American forward picked up Carlton Morris’ pass and surged forward before unleashing an unstoppable effort from the corner of the box that crashed into the roof of the net.
It proved to be decisive as we secured an important 1-0 victory, extending our winning run to seven games.
There was plenty of competition for this award with some sensational strikes over the course of the campaign, primarily from Alex Mowatt and Callum Styles who had seven nominations between them.
The Bury Baggio, who was named Young Player of the Season, finished as runner-up, while Dominik Frieser’s tidy finish against Sheffield Wednesday claimed third place in our public vote.
“Looking back at the season, you’ve seen some stuff from Vic, Stylesy and Alex – there’s been tonnes of great goals and to be voted the top one is a big honour,” asserted Dike.
“I don’t think I’ve hit many better than that – maybe in training! But in terms of a game, that’s definitely one of the better ones I’ve ever hit.
“I remember competing in the midfield and Carlton playing the ball out wide to me, looking up and letting the ball go.”
Everyone at Oakwell would like to congratulate Daryl on his award.
