MICHAEL SOLLBAUER PRE-WEDNESDAY

19 March 2021

Heading into our South Yorkshire derby against Sheffield Wednesday this weekend, Michael Sollbauer says the group is better from the experience of our previous campaign.

The Reds made a remarkable recovery to secure their Sky Bet Championship status on final day back in July and haven’t looked back since, with a marvellous run of form this term seeing us sit fifth in the table with nine games remaining.

“It’s been a crazy turnaround, what happened in the last couple of months,” reflected Sollbauer. “Last season, we fought against relegation and, at the moment, we’re in a very good position.

“It think it was very helpful, what happened last season, to be fair. What we all went through, the whole club, the whole staff, the players, this helped us a lot – especially this season – we grew together and this is, for sure, one reason why this team is a good group and this is helpful for the moment.

“It’s nine games left, we are in a good position but we stay calm, stay focused on just our performances and we will see what will happen.”

Despite chatter of a potential promotion bid surrounding the club, Sollbauer insists that he and his teammates do not concentrate on those comments from the outside, instead channelling their attention on their own performances.

With the end of the season fast approaching, our Austrian defender believes it is important to stay on track and finish as strong as possible.

“We have to ignore all the background noise around us, all the talk, reports and that kind of stuff and just focus on our games,” he continued.

“At the moment, we’re doing quite good and, in my opinion, the team is showing a big maturity and we have to stay that way to keep on going just to focus on this group, the club and game by game.

“We will do everything to keep this focus and not to get out of our way.”
