Heading into our Sky Bet Championship clash with Birmingham City this weekend, Daryl Dike insists that he and his teammates are pushing one another on to make sure they continue this fine run of form.

Barnsley have won six consecutive games and morale is through the roof at the moment, with the Reds’ energetic style of play proving too much to handle.

“Even from the training sessions, you see everyone competing and everyone working hard; we hold each other to a high standard,” insisted Dike. “Even the Chelsea game – we competed hard in that game and we know we can play against any team.

“We’ve proven to each other that we can play against any side and we shouldn’t be scared about anyone, that comes into the results because we hold ourselves to a high standard and we play with quality and the intensity that other teams can’t match.”

With early season fears of a relegation scrap well and truly put to bed, there is reason to be optimistic as we enter the final couple of months of what has been a breathless campaign.

But, as Valérien Ismaël continues to emphasise, it is important that the Reds remain focused to take each game one by one, and it is a mantra that he has instilled in the players, too.

“We take it step by step,” confirmed the American forward. “We go game by game. We don’t think about what’s going to happen in three games; we think about what’s going to happen Saturday, then we think about what’s going to happen Wednesday and we do what we can today to prepare for that.

“After we get that three points, we push on. How can we get the next three points? We keep going and we let the standings control what we can do and, whatever comes out at the end of the season, we’ll evaluate ourselves then.”
