DANE MURPHY ON THE HOMECOMING

2 March 2021

An open letter from Reds Chief Executive Officer, Dane Murphy, thanking supporters for their outstanding support.

Hi Reds,

As always, I hope that you and your loved ones continue to remain safe and healthy.

With the club releasing membership information and pricing structures for the 21/22 campaign, it is prudent to pen these notes and provide clarity on our process.

Upon joining the Club in July 2019, I was awestruck by the genuine fan-first approach from key personnel within the Club. This attitude has been pervasive during the last 12 months and I’m immensely proud of how, as a collective, we responded to challenges.

In parallel, our supporters have not wavered in their commitment to the club. Your patience, understanding, and financial support in the toughest of times cannot be understated. During our last seasonal membership campaign, at the height of the Coronavirus pandemic, with relegation from the Sky Bet Championship more a promise than a possibility, thousands of you remained steadfast.

If the last year has taught me anything, it is that adversity makes this club stronger. This town, this community is built upon a foundation of fighting through hardship. For that, we must truly thank you.

Now we find ourselves turning the long corner. The UK Government has provided a timeline that allows light to once again be seen.

There is a palpable optimism for fans return to stadia in the near future. Since October 2020, across numerous channels, the Club has made clear that staff worked tremendously hard to ensure Oakwell is fit for your homecoming. Countless industries await the lifting of restrictions but we will continue with our approach to comprehend capacities and strategies to enhance our supporter experience.

This season has been like no other. In hoping for significant differences for 21/22, I have little doubt that the upcoming campaign will also live long in memory. Football in England isn’t just about the 90 minutes of action. It’s meeting up with your friends pre-match, before de-briefing at full-time. For some, it’s pilgrimage back, reuniting with family at a place all can truly call home. You have missed the ‘Super Reds’ live in action, but there are sentimental aspects of matchday, moments that you may have taken for granted before, which will elicit the full chemistry of why we hold Oakwell matchdays so dear.

Our front office staff always attempts to do the right thing for the right reasons. Be it complimentary home and away iFollow access for the remaining 19/20 fixtures (all 19/20 members) in addition to refund options, appropriate pricing structure for this locked down season, or responding to streaming entitlements (out of our control), I can promise the best intentions for our supporters is preeminent.

Pricing for seasonal memberships will perpetually be topical and the Club appreciate there is never a perfect balance. We hope it is recognized that the Club have done our utmost to acknowledge those that supported us last season, in line with our expectations to return to normal for the next campaign. Barnsley Football Club home matches remain one of the best deals in the country!

If you have any questions, please reach out. Due to the restrictions currently imposed, the Box Office will remained closed until further notice, but you can call (01226 211 183), or email (memberships@barnsleyfc.co.uk).

We are here to help.

Our attention intently remains on supporting our boys in the last 14 matches of the 20/21 EFL season. We know you will be right there with us, backing Valérien’s side.

Thank you all once again. Stay safe.

You Reds,

Dane Murphy
