BRAD COLLINS POST-DERBY COUNTY

11 March 2021

Having kept a sixth clean sheet in nine outings, Brad Collins heaped praise on his teammates for their collective efforts on the pitch.

The Reds were held to a 0-0 draw with Derby County on Wednesday evening, but remain sixth in the Sky Bet Championship following another solid defensive display in which our stopper was imperious once more.

“Every game they fight, they put their lives on the line and it’s what it’s about,” asserted Collins. “We’re in the Championship; it’s a tough league and you have to fight every week and I feel like we’re doing that.

“I was called into action a couple of times. Obviously, the first half was a couple of headers here and there or through balls, but the second half I was a bit busier but we take the point and move on.”

Barnsley have developed a reputation in recent weeks as being one of the division’s toughest sides to play against – as demonstrated with this magnificent ten game unbeaten run.

So difficult are the Reds to play against that teams are even travelling to Oakwell and throwing their own game plan out of the window to try and counteract our high-octane philosophy in the hope of salvaging something from the encounter.

“It was a tough game,” admitted Collins. “They’ve obviously come here and are fighting for their lives, but we expected them to come here and play long and they did. We didn’t get the three points, but we kept another clean sheet and we move forward.

“We have a very good press and not a lot of teams will come here and try and play as well. It’s credit to us, our press and the gaffer in the way that we set-up, and we expected them to go long.”
