MEDIA INTERN OPPORTUNITIES

Barnsley Football Club has a number of exciting opportunities available within its Media, Marketing and Communications department.

We are looking for driven, creative and talented individuals who are keen to learn and expand their portfolio, while gaining valuable experience in the industry.

The roles are suited to students who are studying towards a relevant degree in order to enhance their future prospects or recent graduates aiming to get their foot in the door.

You will have a chance to produce work for a Sky Bet Championship football club and showcase your abilities to an avid audience.

Please note that these are unpaid internship roles but travel expenses will be covered.

We have a proven track record of developing students/interns to further their career, with many going on to secure employment within the industry.

  • Photography intern
  • Videographer intern

REPORTER INTERN

This role is suitable for a Sports Journalism student looking to gain experience in a professional sporting environment.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Assist the Media, Marketing and Communications department by compiling match previews, reports and reaction pieces for our U23s and U18s fixtures
  • Provide in-game updates on our official Academy Twitter account
  • Interview academy players and coaching staff for articles to be published online and in the matchday programme, where you will be credited for your work
  • Conduct on-camera interviews with academy players and coaching staff for video website content
  • Cover first team pre-match press conferences
  • Opportunities to cover first team fixtures may arise in the season

Essential skills and experience

  • Must be studying towards a journalism degree or media qualification, or a recent graduate
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to write quickly, accurately and creatively to deadlines
  • Knowledge of social media is advantageous
  • Strong understanding of football
  • Reliable and willing to work as part of a team and keen to learn on the job

Desirable skills

  • Full UK driving license and access to own vehicle, or ability to travel to Oakwell on specified matchdays
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word

PHOTOGRAPHY INTERN

This role is suitable for a Photography student looking to gain experience in a professional sporting environment.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Assist the Media, Marketing and Communications department by photographing U23s and U18s fixtures
  • Attend Oakwell at least once a week to photograph academy and first team training, with images to be used on official club channels, where you will be credited for your work
  • Opportunities to cover first team fixtures may arise in the season

Essential skills and experience

  • Must be studying towards a Photography degree or relevant qualification, or a recent graduate
  • Knowledge of using a Nikon camera or similar model
  • Creative flair and ability to capture the moment
  • Understanding of Adobe Photoshop and editing software
  • Ability to work to deadlines
  • Reliable and willing to work as part of a team and keen to learn on the job

Desirable skills and experience

  • Full UK driving license and access to own vehicle, or ability to travel to Oakwell on specified matchdays
  • Own camera or access to photography equipment (club camera can be provided if not)

VIDEOGRAPHER INTERN

This role is suitable for a Post-Production student looking to gain experience in a professional sporting environment.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Assist the Media, Marketing and Communications department by filming U23s and U18s fixtures to create highlights packages for official club channels
  • Film and edit on camera interviews for use on official club channels
  • Opportunities to cover first team fixtures may arise in the season

Essential skills and experience

  • Must be studying towards and Post-Production degree or relevant qualification, or a recent graduate
  • Access to own camera and editing software
  • Understanding of Adobe Premiere Pro or editing software
  • Creative flair
  • Ability to work to deadlines
  • Reliable and willing to work as part of a team and keen to learn on the job

Desirable skills and experience

  • Experience of filming sporting events, preferably football
  • Full UK driving license and access to own vehicle, or ability to travel to Oakwell on specified matchdays

There may be multiple openings for each position to help assist with the workload both at college/university and Barnsley Football Club responsibilities.

You may be required to work unsociable hours during this internship.

Successful candidates will have to complete a DBS check prior to starting; this will be provided by the club.
