Young prospects agree new contracts ahead of the 21/22 campaign.

Barnsley Football Club is pleased to confirm that three of its emerging Academy products have extended their stays here at Oakwell.

Exciting talents Connor Hodgson and Joe Ackroyd have signed their first professional deals having excelled at both U18 and U23 level last term, whilst midfielder Will Lancaster - who turned professional last summer - has signed an extension after starring in the U23s last term.

Hodgson is Barnsley born and bred and has been in the Academy system since 2011. A midfielder by trade, the 18-year-old featured 20 times for the 18s last season, scoring twice whilst playing in a variety of positions. The versatile youngster has operated centrally both in defence and midfield, as well as at full-back, and made four appearances for the 23s as his development went from strength to strength.

Looking to kick on ahead of the new campaign, Connor has signed a 12-month deal on pro terms with the Reds, with a second year option.

Ackroyd is another homegrown product, having joined the Reds' Academy setup back in 2012. The attack-minded midfielder captained our 18s last term, playing all 25 PDL fixtures and notching five goals from central midfield. He would later step up to the 23s, making six appearances and is renowned for his energy and hard-running.

The 18-year-old has put pen to paper on a 12-month professional contract - with a second year option - as he aims to push on in his development.

Lancaster - also a hometown boy - signed his first pro deal in May of last year and the 18-year-old has been in the Academy system for 11 years now. A physical and combative central midfielder, he made 19 appearances for Devaney's U23s last term, scoring once.

Will has seen his contract extended for a further 12 months as he hopes to impress once more in the upcoming 21/22 season.

We'll have interviews with all of Will, Joe and Connor on iFollow Barnsley in the near future.
