SOLLBAUER TO JOIN DYNAMO DRESDEN

7 July 2021

Michael Sollbauer has joined Dynamo Dresden on a permanent transfer.

The defender arrived at Oakwell from Austria Bundesliga side, Wolfsberger AC, in January 2020.

Michael was instrumental for the rest of that 19/20 Sky Bet Championship campaign, playing every minute in the remaining 17 fixtures. His leadership made an immeasurable difference in the Reds’ backline, as Barnsley defied the odds and retained their divisional status on the final day of the season, against Brentford.

Sole also featured in 37 league games throughout the 20/21 season, playing regularly alongside Michał Helik and Mads Andersen, as the Reds recorded their highest Championship finish for 21 years.

Commenting on the departure, Co-Chairman, Paul Conway said: "The Board of Directors at Barnsley Football Club would like to thank Michael for his incredible service to the Club for the last two seasons. Michael provided incredible commitment to the Club and set a great example of professionalism for the entire squad.

“When Michael asked to be able to return to Europe to reunite with his family, we absolutely had to reciprocate his professionalism and allow this move. We will all be following Sole in his new journey and wish him and his family the best."

All at Oakwell would like to thank Michael for his commitment whilst at Barnsley FC and wish him all the very best in his future endeavours.
