Barnsley FC announce Matt Cook as the new Head of Sports Science.
Matt joins Markus Schopp’s backroom team with a wealth of experience. Before entering the world of professional football, he started his career with the English Institute of Sport, leading national strength and conditioning programmes for England Squash and Paralympic Swimming.
In 2011, Matt joined Manchester City, leading the academy sports science department, before progressing to ‘Head of Medicine and Science’ at the Etihad. Progressing through the City Football Group, he later moved to become first team lead performance coach at New York City FC in the MLS.
Most recently, Matt spent two years in OGC Nice, working with Patrick Viera in Ligue 1, leading all physical preparation and rehabilitation strategies.
