CAULEY WOODROW POST-NORWICH CITY

3 January 2021

Following our 1-0 defeat against Norwich City, Cauley Woodrow believes that Barnsley just needed a little bit more luck to get something from the game.

The Reds saw Luke Thomas hit the bar early on before Michal Helik diverted a Callum Styles cross narrowly wide in the dying embers in an encouraging performance at Carrow Road.

“We only lost 1-0 and we had some good chances but, also, they had some chances that they probably would have scored on another day as well,” began Woodrow.

“One another day, we get a bit of luck and Michal scores at the end and we get a 1-1 draw, but they’re a good side and I thought we did alright.

“Norwich are a really good footballing side and they have a lot of possession and have some good individual players but I thought we dealt with it well and had a fair few chances that, if they go in, the game could be totally different.”

Barnsley can take plenty of positives from this encounter, knowing that only a moment of brilliance was the difference between a side recently relegated from the Premier League and one that pulled off a remarkable Sky Bet Championship survival last term.

It is important to remember how well the Reds have performed of late, with six wins from eight in December to help put us in play-off contention.

“We had a great December and won a lot of games,” continued Woodrow. “We’re going to lose games from now until the end of the season but it’s important that we bounce back like we have done previously.

“We’ve got the FA Cup next weekend so we have a little break from the league, but we’ll be ready for that and raring to go when the league starts again.”

On a personal note, our deadly marksman racked up a century of appearances in all competitions for Barnsley against the Canaries.

His record speaks for itself, with 43 goals in that time and he is eager to add to that tally in the coming months.

“I’m really pleased; it’s gone so quick,” he smiled. “I’m really happy – it’s nice to get 100 appearances and hopefully I can make a lot more.”
