Match-winner Callum Styles says he is eager to add more goals and assists over the course of the campaign and help the team push on.
The diminutive midfielder scored the only goal as Barnsley saw off Norwich City in the Emirates FA Cup fourth round at Oakwell on Saturday afternoon, taking his tally to four for the season as he continues to establish himself as one of the Reds’ key players.
“That’s what I want to do; I want to get the end product,” insisted Styles, speaking exclusively to iFollow Barnsley.
“I think that’s the first one with my right foot but, in the game, I had three shots with my right foot so I think it was coming all along and to get the breakthrough was really good.”
After dominating the first half in which the Canaries only mustered one attempt in anger, there was a feeling that it might have been one of those days for the Reds who had bombarded Tim Krul’s goal with no reward.
But Barnsley regrouped at the interval and picked up where they left off, eventually breaking the deadlock early in the second half.
“The message was basically keep doing what we’re doing,” continued Styles. “We were on top, creating chance but we needed to put one in the back of the net to win the game. That’s what we did; we found it.
“They’re possession orientated but with the way we set-up and pressed, I think we gained a lot of opportunities and had lots of shots on target – and one of them has got to go in in the end.”
