TOBY SIBBICK POST-TRANMERE ROVERS

11 January 2021

After making his first Reds appearance since December 2019, Toby Sibbick says he is delighted to be back out on the pitch with his teammates.

The versatile defender was introduced as a second half substitute during our 2-0 Emirates FA Cup third round victory over Tranmere Rovers on Sunday afternoon and is thrilled to have been given an opportunity to impress.

“It feels good to be back out there and helping the boys, so hopefully now I can just kick on and try and play as many games as I can towards the end of the season and help the boys,” began Sibbick.

“The manager is giving everyone a fair crack of the whip so I feel like if I can get my head down and keep working hard, then anything can happen.”

Sibbick had two loan spells with Heart of Midlothian and KV Oostende, but found regular football hard to come by in those temporary stints.

He returned to Oakwell at the end of December, insisting that he has gained valuable experience in his time away from the club and developed mentally as a player.

“It’s made me realise that, in football, nothing is ever guaranteed and you’ve just got to stay professional and work hard every day because, in football, anything can happen,” he continued. “I feel like it was a tough spell for me but, now I’m back, I feel a lot happier and I just can’t wait to get going again.

“It just feels new to me and I feel like that’s what I need now because, out there, I was sort of in a negative mindset but as soon as I found out I could come back here and the manager would give me a chance, it put me in a positive mood and I’m glad to be back here.”
