We are saddened to learn of the passing of former Reds full-back Peter Gillott.
Following a battle with dementia, it's with great sadness that former Barnsley Football Club defender Peter Gillott has passed away.
A child of World War II, Peter was Barnsley born and bred and began his footballing journey with Worsborough before being snapped up by the Reds in 1953.
Gillott made just a handful of appearances for his hometown club before making a move to Chelmsford City where he would create a real legacy in Essex, going on to make 376 appearances for the club.
A youth international with England, Peter remained a supporter of his beloved Barnsley FC right until the end, wearing his Reds shirt in his final moments.
Our thoughts as a Club are with Peter's family, friends and loved ones at this difficult time.
