CARLTON MORRIS JOINS THE REDS

6 January 2021

Barnsley Football Club is delighted to announce the arrival of Carlton Morris.

Joining the Reds on a deal until 2023, the 25-year-old striker signs from Norwich City for an undisclosed fee.

The Cambridge-born forward is a product of the Canaries’ highly-regarded youth system, most notably lifting the FA Youth Cup with Norwich in 2013, but since turning professional he’s spent time away from Carrow Road with various loan spells.

A strong and mobile frontman, Morris enjoyed a fruitful spell north of the border with Hamilton Academical during the 2015/16 season, scoring eight goals in 33 SPL appearances helping Accies retain their top-flight status.

Standing 6’2” tall, Carlton spent two separate spells in South Yorkshire with our neighbours Rotherham United but it was undoubtedly his loan move to Shrewsbury Town in 2017/18 that saw him first flourish in the Football League. He would hit double figures for the Shrews as they surprised everyone to reach the League One play-off final, only for Morris to suffer a torn cruciate ligament at Wembley in the final as Salop lost out to Rotherham for a place in the second tier.

A youth international with England, he would miss the entirety of the following campaign as he recovered from injury before spending much of the last 12 months with MK Dons in two separate spells.

Speaking exclusively to iFollow Barnsley after putting pen to paper, our newest recruit said: “I'm delighted to sign for Barnsley Football Club and I can't wait to get involved.

"I'd describe myself as offering a bit of everything. I like to think I'm strong and quick, good technically. I know I'm describing a super-player there, so don't expect too much!

"But no, I will leave everything out there on the pitch every time, that is a given, something I pride myself on."

Barnsley FC’s Chief Executive Officer, Dane Murphy told us: “The club are pleased to get this one over the line, to bolster our attacking options. Carlton has proven he can excel in the EFL and has the requisite skillset to add to our forward line.

“This is a deal that we’ve been working on for some time with our stated aim to get business done as early as possible this month.

“We are looking forward to seeing Carlton contribute and have no doubt that he will be another quality addition.”

Welcome to Oakwell, Carlton Morris!
