MICHAŁ HELIK POST-NOTTINGHAM FOREST

31 January 2021

Speaking after our 0-0 draw with Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon, Michał Helik is eager for the Reds to get back to winning ways.

It is another point on the board for Barnsley, who have consolidated their place in the top half of the Sky Bet Championship table and our Polish defender says he and his teammates will be fired up ready for the next assignment against Derby County.

“I think we showed a decent performance; a clean sheet and a point, we need to respect,” said Helik. “But, of course, we want to take three points from here but, in the end, it’s a draw and a point.

“We need to come back to the winning ways and I hope we can do that at home against Derby. We have a week until the next game and I think it will help us a little because we need that and we can show a better performance at Oakwell.”

Helik has been joined at the heart of defence by Toby Sibbick in recent weeks, with the versatile 21-year-old returning to Barnsley after being recalled from his loan spell with Belgian outfit KV Oostende.

He has certainly caught the eye of Reds Head Coach, Valérien Ismaël, who has used him as the right centre-back in our last three outings.

But Helik insists that it doesn’t matter who is in the backline, saying that everyone has a strong understanding and anyone can step in when required.

“We have good relationships in the whole team with all the players,” continued the 25-year-old. “For us, as a team, it doesn’t matter who plays – we all have good relationships; we are friends and it’s a good feeling to play with Toby or Sole or Mads.”
