CALLUM BRITTAIN POST-SWANSEA CITY

17 January 2021

Callum Brittain says there are plenty reasons to be optimistic following Saturday evening’s 2-0 defeat against Swansea City.

Barnsley more than matched the Sky Bet Championship high-fliers and had the better of the play at Oakwell, but were unable to find a way past the best defence in the division.

“To be honest, I’m thinking positive,” asserted Brittain. “Obviously, it’s two goals that we’ve conceded and the second one is very sloppy, but the first one is a bit of a lottery ball and it’s come into our danger zone. Five men have gone up to head it and it’s come off his head and gone it; I don’t think he knew much about it.

“But I thought we were the better team for the majority of the game and I think we can keep our heads held high going into Tuesday [against Watford].”

It has been a tough start to 2021 for Barnsley, who have faced the top two sides in the league already and given good accounts of themselves in both encounters.

However, the Reds are still enjoying a fine campaign nonetheless and Brittain believes there’s not a lot between his side and those leading the way.

“We went to Norwich two weeks ago and gave them a really good game and we came here, played against second in the league and gave these a really good game,” continued our full-back.

“I think it’s fine margins – especially in the Championship – and that’s the difference between the top teams, the middle teams and the bottom teams.”
