CAULEY WOODROW POST-CHELSEA

12 February 2021

Speaking after our 1-0 defeat at the hands of Chelsea on Thursday evening, Cauley Woodrow insists Barnsley can be proud of their efforts against their in-form Premier League opponents.

The Reds were magnificent at Oakwell in front of a nationwide audience, but sadly the Emirates FA Cup journey ended as Tammy Abraham struck a second half winner for the visitors, who survived a number of scares.

“All week, the manager has been talking to us about showing everyone what we’re about,” said Woodrow.

“Obviously, we’re disappointed that we didn’t win but, in terms of the way we went about our business, the way we went about the game, the effort we gave and just showing what we’re about against one of the best teams in the world, I think we’ve done unbelievable.

“We should be really proud of ourselves and our performance.”

There is reason to be optimistic of late, despite not picking up the desired result on a number of occasions, as displays against high-flying opposition have been fantastic.

Woodrow feels it gives Barnsley a platform on which to build heading into the final few months of a frenetic campaign as he and his teammates continuously grow in belief with each passing game.

“I think it just gives us massive confidence,” continued the Reds’ striker. “We’re not going to play against a team in the Championship this season that are better than Chelsea, so if we perform like we did against the remaining Championship sides then we’ll have a lot of positive results to come.

“I know we didn’t win but, against a Championship team, if we play like we did we probably will win. It’s a good confidence boost for us even though we didn’t come out with a result.”
