CARLTON MORRIS POST-BRENTFORD

15 February 2021

Fresh from netting his first Reds goal in our 2-0 victory over Brentford on Sunday afternoon, Carlton Morris says he’s delighted to be off the mark for his new club.

The 25-year-old joined Barnsley in January and marked his first start in style by latching onto Daryl Dike’s low ball before firing beyond David Raya to double our lead in west London.

“I’m buzzing, definitely,” beamed Morris after the game. “Just on the spot and taking my chance, I knew going in that you’ll at least get one chance – it’s just about taking it.

“The ball has come in from Dike and I’ve sort of been proactive with it and jumped on the mistake from Pinnock. To be fair, he’s done really well to cover the left-side of the goal so the only option I had was to put some pace on the ball, but I was just happy to see it go in.”

It is the first time Morris has been on the winning side since he arrived at Oakwell, having been cup-tied for our FA Cup fixtures with Tranmere Rovers and Norwich City.

However, he insists that displays from the Reds during that time have been nothing less than excellent, particularly going up against some of the Sky Bet Championship’s best sides.

“I watched the game against Chelsea in midweek and the lads were different class, and I just thought if we can put anywhere near that sort of performance in here – we were full of confidence coming into it – then we could get a result,” he continued.

“I don’t think you could say that about many teams coming here.

“It’s not about a lack of confidence in the dressing room; the lads have been brilliant since I’ve come in. There’s no negative energy about or anything like that and I think we go into any game thinking we can get a result.”
