VALÉRIEN ISMAËL PRE-BRENTFORD

13 February 2021

The Reds' Head Coach is confident that positive results are just around the corner if his side continues to perform at current levels.

After being knocked out of this year's Emirates FA Cup despite a superb performance in midweek against Chelsea, the Reds return to league action on Sunday at 1pm against high-flying Brentford, away from home.

Valérien Ismaël feels the rewards aren't far away for his young side, suggesting confidence in the camp remains high despite the lack of league victories in 2021.

He said: "My players are always learning and there is a lot to take out of the Chelsea performance, and other displays in recent weeks against some of the top sides in the Championship.

"The levels are there, we know we can compete against any opponent with our principles, but we must start getting our rewards.

"I'm confident in my team if they continue to play with courage."

After already meeting the top three in the division last month, Barnsley now take on a Bees side unbeaten in 22 matches who had risen to the summit of the Championship until the 3pm Saturday fixtures.

The Gaffer reckons the challenges that his side have faced in recent weeks holds them in good stead going into the clash at the Brentford Community Stadium and hopes that first league win of the year isn't too far away.

"In the last few weeks I think the development of our team is clear and visible." The boss explained.

"We've had a tough schedule, playing some top sides as I say, and done very well in those games. Even in the cup, with the games against Norwich and then Chelsea.

"They were all the time a tight game.

"We have beaten Norwich too, so we have the belief and confidence in what we are doing and want to have more success in the Championship."
