No sooner had Daryl Dike finished his first Reds training session was he whisked off to complete his media duties with the local press.
Our latest addition has settled in well to life at Oakwell and says he is impressed with every aspect of his new home.
“It felt good to get around, see the facilities and meet the guys and staff,” began Dike. “It’s really good and I’m excited, for sure.
“First impressions are nice. You can definitely tell there’s a good culture here and a good history and you can tell it’s been embedded in the club with some of the players around here as well, so it’s good that I can be part of that.”
With just two days until our next assignment against Derby County, the hard work continues on the training ground for Barnsley as they look to get back to winning ways in the Sky Bet Championship.
There has been a rare week between games, which means extra freshness for the squad as they implement Valérien Ismaël’s high-tempo, pressing style that is so often a nightmare for defenders.
Dike insists he is exactly that type of player: one who will give his all for the cause to ensure his side claim all three points.
“In terms of getting acclimated, it’s going quickly,” continued the American international. “The guys are doing really well to make sure that I understand the tactics, that I understand how the coach wants to play, how everyone wants to play and where I can fit into the club.
“Just from the first training session, you can instantly see that kind of family feeling the guys have and that’s something you can definitely see when they’re playing and it translates onto the field.
“I like to score goals, I like to create goals, I like to help everyone around me – I do whatever it takes to get the team to win at the end of the day. Whether it be defending or scoring, going forward, I think that’s my thing and I’ll fight for anything for my team to get the win. That’s how I play and how I’ve modelled myself; to do everything I can to win.”
