LIAM KITCHING PREVIEWS ROVERS TRIP

28 December 2021

Liam Kitching gave his thoughts ahead of our clash with Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday evening.

ON POSTPONED BOXING DAY FIXTURE
“I look at it as a bit disappointing because I think on Friday night (against West Bromwich Albion) we looked like a good team, and I thought we could take the positives from that game and build on it on Boxing Day.

“It’s a massive thing in England to play on Boxing Day.”

ON WEST BROM DRAW
“I think the defensive side of the game was really good; we were putting our bodies on the line and working hard as a team, together. But we all know we need to be better in the final third and create more.

“We’ve got to take the positives out of the game and build on it.”

ON FIRST FULL SEASON IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP
“It’s hard climbing up the leagues, but I’m enjoying it. I’m learning every day and gaining the experience as I go.

“There’s always room for improvement – I’m very critical of myself; I find it hard to give myself more positives than negatives. But I think I’ve been doing alright.

“I like getting forward and trying to get involved in attacks, but my first thought is always defending and trying to keep a clean sheet.”

ON POYA ASBAGHI
“It’s been really good; I’m really enjoying him. I think he’s come in and implemented his style really well, and all the boys are buying into it, so I’m sure in the second half of the season we can really kick on and get some wins.

“He’s very passionate and positive, which is good for a squad like ours because we’re quite a young squad and I think people thrive off the positivity and energy he brings into the team.”

ON SQUAD MENTALITY
“We’ve got some massive characters in the dressing room and I feel like now, especially, they’re really coming into play and it’ll show on the pitch.

“The game against West Brom just shows what we’re going to do to turn this season around; we’re going to fight and do everything we can.”
